Pastor’s Corner

Greetings and Happy ‘Almost Spring’ to our Total Faith Family and Friends!

We are all so blessed – God has been so good to us individually and as a Church Family!!! Please join me in giving continuous praise to our God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and the Ever-Present Holy Spirit, as we are continuously blessed, protected, and uplifted by our Father, The Sovereign God! As you can see

I’m filled with praise, and we all should be… look where God has brought us His Church from – even in what was without a doubt, the most trying time in our Church history, in the Homegoing of our Beloved Pastor, Steven R. Cossey. God continues to remind us that we, His Church, belong to Him, and will provide, in abundance, all that we need for His Kingdom and is Glory! Our eternal love and prayers continue, for our beloved Sister Cossey and the Cossey family, as they walk this new chapter of their lives.

As we are now in the Lenten Season, we take precious time to reflect, on what our Faith is really all about – God loving us so, that He reconciled Himself to us, by giving us His Precious Son Jesus to suffer unimaginable horrors, and ultimate Crucifixion for our salvation. Please join me reflecting on these days before the Resurrection, with love, humility, thanksgiving, and fasting. I encourage you to fast from what the Holy Spirit directs you to fast from, that you may become fully receptive to Holy Spirit’s work in you, and in our Church during this, the most Holy of Seasons.

 Editor’s Corner

Greetings In the Matchless Name of Jesus the Christ our Lord and Savior. In case I have not connected with you this year - HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all. Yes, Spring is on the way, but let’s reflect for a few minutes on how we brought the year in.

We started the year with purpose and passion. The night started with the reason why we “go ye therefore” a baptism. Latoya McHenry praise God accepted Christ as her Savior. Another soul was added to the Kingdom. After baptism a personal testimony was given by Renade Cossey who gave all glory to God for restoration, perseverance and healing after a difficult year. Following testimony our amazing youth, Gods’ Anointed Praisers presented an awesome praise dance. We were all ready for the WORD and Reverend Catherine Jackson and Pastor Anthony Wilson did not disappoint.

Rev. Jackson encouraged us to get busy, praising and getting busy following God's vision for our church - the VISION was already cast. Pastor Wilson stressed we must live on purpose according to what God designed for us eliminating drama partnering with God to flourish, for strength and healthy lifestyles for our success. We must live with purpose looking toward the increase, mind, body and finances bringing every area of our life into overflow and under subjection.

We continued our celebration of the New Year with a buffet dinner prepared by Carlos Jones.

About Lent!

Lent for the year 2023 started on Wednesday, February 22nd and ends on Thursday, April 6th.

What is Lent and why it is celebrated?

Lent is a Christian annual period that starts on Ash Wednesday lasting for 40 days (not Including Sundays) representing the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the wilderness. This 40 day period for Christians is a time to reflect, fast, and give penance in preparation for the resurrection of Christ Easter Sunday. One thing to clarify, Lent is not about giving up; rather it is a time to get back to basics and pursue a much greater relationship with Christ.

Why do it last forty days?

The forty days represents the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan and preparing to begin his ministry. Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. In the early church, Lent was a time to prepare new converts for baptism.

Many of these practices can be celebrated both individually and as a community:

  • Purple: Like Advent, the official color for Lent is purple.

  • Confession: As mentioned above, Lent is a penitential season or expressed sorrow and repentance.

  • Fasting and Prayer: Fasting is a practice that has really gone by the wayside in many Christian circles.

Antoinette Parchmon

Total Faith, help me to welcome our newest member, Antoinette Parchmon. Antionette is definitely a woman who thoroughly seeks God’s guidance before making a decision. She has visited with us may times before committing herself to the Lord and to our congregation. Antoinette grew up under the nurturing hand of her grandmother who raised her in the church. She Enjoys Helping And Caring For Seniors In The Community and She Has Her Own Cleaning Service.

She is a little shy so be sure to great her with that Tfcc love hug.

Black History All Year Not Just One Month

Black History Month is an annual observance originating in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month. It has received official recognition from governments in the United States and Canada, and more recently has been observed in Ireland and the United Kingdom. It began as a way of remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. It is celebrated in February in the United States and Canada, while in Ireland and the United Kingdom it is observed in October.

2015 was the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War. Also in 1865, with the ratification of the 13th Amendment, ownership of human beings ended in all states though existing black codes were reinforced in 1865 and 1866 to replace the slave codes in Southern states, helping bring on Reconstruction legislation from the US Congress.

Historian Carter G. Woodson, along with colleagues at the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), established Negro History Week in 1926. With mobs still lynching African Americans every year (335 deaths reported in the 1920’s, of the total 4400 from 1877 to 1950 documented by the Equal Justice Initiative) and a surge of race riots sweeping the country, Woodson wanted to provide a counterpoint to the racist perspectives that dominated America. Initially observed in black schools, churches and social organizations, the event grew into Black History Month (also known as African American History Month) with the US Congress designation of February as National Black History Month in 1986
